Features and OptionsRestored 7 Liter Hydroplane (class H) originally built in 1966 By John Staudacher & Dave Wrzesinski and raced in the late 60?s and early 70?s originally powered by a supercharged 392 Chrysler Hemi. This hydroplane was constructed for Jug Kelly. Jug lived in Chicago, hence the original name Miss Windy and was raced in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin. Jug?s friends picked number, H-007 Long Gone, H-008 Miss Chicago, for their 7 liter Hydros so Jug choose the racing number of H-009. In 1971 there was a repaint and new number of H-909 and the hydro was raced until the early 1980?s
. In 2001 Mike Reitman purchase from John Hauver and brought to CA from NY to begin its restoration. From 2002 ? 2007 Mike Reitman restored the hull and replace the decks and rebuilt all hardware, running gear and installed a 396 cu Chevrolet with Hilborn fuel injection. The hydro was launched in October 2007 with a new name Miss Santa Cruz.
Purchased in 2008 by Roger Hinsdale & Jerry Winston of Knoxville, TN, the boat had set out during a freeze and the block cracked. Roger and Jerry opted for a complete rebuild and restore back to the original Miss Windy theme. The hull went to Gary Pugh?s Boat Works in Knoxville TN to restore interior wood and have the decks replaced. Top Gun Racing built a 510 CID using DART block and heads using a Dyers Blower, comp cam, JE Pistons, and Jessel valve train. Under driving the supercharger, the engine produced 1,100 HP on pump Hi-Test gasoline. The motor is splined to a Casale Z-box with a 1.52% overdrive transmission. The 1.25? shaft spins a 12? x 20 pitch Record 2-blade prop. Rigging includes a water pump, Bilge & sponson pumps, alternator, foam fire system, updated dash, and MasterLube oil pre-lubrication. A dual axle tilting trailer was fabricated by Hustler Trailers.
